Hirth coupling
- Hirth gears are form and force based self-centering flange joints.
- The positioning accuracy of Hirth tables or trunnions results from the Hirth gear. These tables or trunnions use an angle measuring system only for pre-positioning. The angle measuring system of the motor is often used for this purpose.
- The index pattern is in direct correlation to the number of teeth of the Hirth ring.
- Hirth gearing can transmit very high forces and the accuracy increases with use.
- 4 or 5 axis contour machining is not possible with units based on the Hirth ring design.
- Hirth engagement may be of a lifting or non-lifting design. With a lifting table, the faceplate is raised during the positioning. With a non-raising table, the faceplate height is retained during the disengagement and locking of the Hirth rings in the table.
- Peiseler ATHN, SKHN and ZASH tables are driven by a pinion gear. The designation N stands for non-lifting
